Our Story
The Chilli Guy wasn’t started in a boardroom.
It started with a setback.
In April 2025, everything changed overnight. After falling victim to a phone hack, R225,000 was stolen from our accounts in just 20 minutes — wiping out the funds we had saved to start a business.
With no safety net and limited resources, we had a choice:
Give up… or start anyway.
So we started small.
With just 12 bottles, a simple idea, and a passion for flavour.
Maurice had always loved chilli — but hated the sauces in stores. Too acidic. Too much vinegar. Not enough balance.
So we made our own.
We gave those first bottles to friends and family — and the response was immediate.
They loved it.
So we made more.
Building the Brand
What started as a chilli sauce quickly grew into something bigger.
We realised:
Not everyone wants heat — but everyone wants flavour.
So we expanded:
- Cheese spreads for milder palates
- Chilli crisp packed with flavour and natural goodness
- Relishes and chutneys for versatility
- Spices and biltong to complete the experience
Every product came from real feedback, real people, and real markets.
From Market Stall to Award-Winning Brand
Our first market?
We made just R700.
We were discouraged. We thought maybe this wouldn’t work.
But we kept going.
Early mornings. Late nights. Market after market. Eight months later, we returned to the same chilli festival…
And this time?
🏆 We won 1st place for our condiments
That moment confirmed everything:
